HUM 121 September 27

Today we went over the passages by Plato and Aristotle and talked about philosophy. Today's in-class activity was to write an allegory.

HUM 121 September 25

We discussed the passage from the Iliad in Chapter 4 of the textbook and compared Achilles and Gilgamesh. For Thursday, read the sections in Chapter 4 from The Republic (pp. 101-103) and Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics (pp. 105-106).

Study Guide #2 is due Thursday. It will be accepted late only under the conditions set forth in the syllabus.

ENG 131 September 24

We took time at the beginning of class to do peer reviews of the memo and letter for the correspondence assignment. The final versions, along with any drafts, are due next Monday (Oct. 1). We also talked about research and divided into groups for the research project. See the handout I uploaded for that project and the instructions in the course website for Online Assignment #4.

I handed out Study Guide #3. Study Guide #2 is due next Thursday (Sept. 27). We discussed the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations before watching a video about ancient Greece. Be sure you read the passage from The Iliad in Chapter 4 for next Tuesday (Sept. 25).

ENG 030 September 19

We continued practicing identifying parts of speech in sentences. The Eduspace exercises on pronouns and articles are due by next Monday (Sept. 24). The ones for adjectives, conjunctions, and interjections are due by next Friday (Sept. 28).

HUM 121 September 19

We completed a worksheet on Gilgamesh and talked about the poem. Study Guide #1 and the field trip plan were due. Study Guide #2 is due next Wednesday.

We discussed ethics in the workplace, wrote codes of ethics for the class, and went over the format for business letters and memos. I also handed out the correspondence assignment.

ENG 030 September 17

We went through the rest of the parts of speech and practiced identifying them in sentences. Complete the next two Eduspace exercises by next Monday. We'll continue to practice identification of parts of speech on Wednesday.

HUM 121 September 17

We finished our discussion of ancient Egypt and watched a video about early civilizations in Mesopotamia. Study Guide #1 is due on Wednesday.

We finished discussing Egypt and watched a video introducing the civilizations in Mesopotamia. Study Guide #1 is due on Tuesday, and you need to have finished reading Gilgamesh by then.

ENG 030 September 12

We talked about verbs and reviewed nouns. On Monday, we'll finish introducing the parts of speech and work on identifying them in sentences. The first three Eduspace exercises are due by Monday.

HUM 121 September 12

We watched a video about Nefertiti and the Amarna period in ancient Egypt. We'll finish up with Egypt on Monday and start discussing Mesopotamia. Study Guide #1 is due on Wednesday of next week.

We went over how to register with EduSpace and enroll in the course. We then went to the Writing Center for an orientation, and I helped anyone who wanted me to sign up with EduSpace.
